Abstract

This community service activity aimed to enhance teachers’ competencies in using picture card media as a learning aid aligned with the scientific approach. Picture card media is considered effective in stimulating students’ thinking, imagination, and understanding, especially at the elementary school level. The scientific approach, which consists of observing, questioning, experimenting, reasoning, and communicating, was applied integratively throughout the training. The activity was conducted at SDN 060877 Medan and involved 20 participating teachers. The implementation methods included lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and hands-on practice. Evaluation results showed that 15% of participants reached the “excellent” category, 55% were in the “good” category, and 30% were in the “fair” category. These findings indicate that the training successfully improved most participants’ understanding of the concepts and practical use of picture card media based on the scientific approach. This program is expected to serve as a starting point for strengthening teachers’ abilities in developing active, innovative, and contextual classroom learning.
