Abstract

Advances in digital technology have simplified access to online financial services and entertainment. However, these conveniences also introduce major risks, especially the rise of online loans and online gambling. Easy access, rapid approvals, and aggressive social media promotions make young people particularly vulnerable. Unplanned online borrowing often leads to severe debt, while online gambling causes financial loss, addiction, reduced productivity, and social conflict. To address these issues, KKN Daksa Samata students partnered with Karang Taruna to conduct an educational initiative in Kalegen Kidul Hamlet, Dersansari Village. This community engagement project adopted a participatory and interactive framework through in-person educational sessions, involving 50 youth members from the Kalegen Kidul Karang Taruna. The implementation was organized into four distinct steps: (1) designing the learning modules and identifying core topics; (2) delivering in-depth lectures regarding platform legitimacy, online borrowing pitfalls, and gambling risks; (3) facilitating two-way discussions focused on practical case analyses; and (4) conducting a qualitative assessment of the participants' understanding and behavioral readiness. The session featured short presentations, group discussions, Q&A, and a brief evaluation. Participants demonstrated a clearer understanding of the risks tied to digital loans and gambling. Their awareness of financial and digital literacy also improved, helping them make responsible online decisions. Ultimately, this activity encourages youth to use technology wisely, avoid financial harm, and act as positive role models in their community.
