Abstract

Coastal areas have the potential for abundant marine products, including fish which are rich in protein and important nutrients for the growth of babies and toddlers. However, the use of fish as a basic ingredient for Complementary Food for Breast Milk (MP-ASI) is still minimal due to a lack of public knowledge regarding proper processing and its benefits. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of mothers in the coastal area of Wuring Beach in processing fish into a nutritious, safe and attractive MP-ASI menu. The method used is participatory which actively involves local communities including socialization, cooking demonstrations and evaluation of understanding. The population in this activity are mothers who have babies and toddlers. The selection of respondents was carried out purposively. The total sample involved was 30 people. Sample selection took into account the representation of community groups with various socio-economic and educational backgrounds. This outreach program is effective in increasing the knowledge, skills and awareness of Wuring Beach coastal communities regarding the benefits of fish as a basic ingredient for MP-ASI. The results of the activity showed an increase in knowledge of 85% and processing skills of 75%, based on the pre-test and post-test carried out. It is hoped that coastal communities will be more aware of the importance of optimally utilizing marine products to support children's health and growth and development.
